Feminine and delicate, the By The Sea necklace lets you become one with nature. Sand Dollars are beautiful on their own, so I crafted a simple Sterling Silver wire bail to hang it on the chain. Bring a piece of the beach to your boho-chic look with this coastal jewelry.
NOTE: The Sand Dollar is FRAGILE, so please store this necklace on its own, not mixed in with your other jewelry.
Sand Dollars are a species of extremely flattened burrowing sea urchins. When alive, they have many different colors. When they die, their external velvet-like spines fall off, which leaves just the rigid skeleton (called a "test"). Sand Dollar skeletons can become white from either natural sun bleaching, or manually using a bleach solution. Note it is illegal in the USA to take a living Sand Dollar from the beach/ocean, only dead Sand Dollars may be collected.
Metaphysical Properties
Mythologically, Sand Dollars are believed to be coins at the ocean's surface leftover from the lost city of Atlantis. Much like the Sand Dollar's unpredictable journey to the shore, Sand Dollars encourage the wearer to invite change and adapt to life's currents.
